6. MAIN FUNCTIONS
6.1 Maintain the grounds, playing fields and changing rooms.
6.2 Carry out maintenance both internal and external of both sites when required, including general repairs and painting/ decorating and fire safety checks
6.3 Encourage good team working through adequate and positive communication with Recreation Club, Sections, other Members and Staff.
6.4 Enhance the image and reputation of the Club.
6.5 Support efforts of the Club to raise efficiency and reduce costs.
7.1 Playing Fields
7.1.1 Prepare all playing surfaces during the relevant sports season to the required standard and following a programme set by the appropriate sporting section i.e. Bowls, Cricket etc. This includes marking-out pitches, mowing, weeding, hoeing, digging and the application of herbicides and fungicides as necessary.
7.1.2 Operate mowing, strimming, hedge cutting and other machinery.
7.1.3 Carry out a regular programme of weed control in all areas, including sports fields, utilising weed killing agents/grass cutting machinery.
7.1.4 Carry out routine maintenance of machinery and keep in good operating condition.
7.1.5 Liase with landscaping or other contractors.
7.2 Changing Room Facilities.
7.2.1 Clean daily all Sports changing rooms, shower and toilet facilities.
7.3 Other Outside Areas
7.3.1 Maintain flowerbeds, shrubs and hedges.
7.3.2 Repair fencing.
7.3.3 Clear daily litter from all hard standing, car parks, landscaped and sports areas. Sweep areas on a regular planned basis and whenever necessary.
7.3.4 Rectify any defects, damage or adverse occurrences (e.g. fly-tipping). Be available to assist in emergency snow clearance and gritting.
7.4 In-door and other activities.
7.4.1 As directed by the Operations Manager assist with chair & table moving, building maintenance and cleaning, particularly to meet operational needs or if inclement weather restricts outdoor activities.
8.1 Make him/herself familiar with the Company Health and Safety Policy and his/her legal obligations.
8.2 Take responsibility for safety issues during maintenance activities especially concerning his/her own safety but also for others involved in aspects or results of his/her work.
8.3 Wear appropriate protective clothing at all times including safety wear.
8.4 Prepare risk assessments for unusual operations.
8.5 Be aware of COSHH Regulations on hazardous substances including herbicides and fungicides used.
9.1 Keep a record of all materials received including seed, weed killer, fertilisers, oils, fuels etc, indicate quantities received, when and from whom and usage including when and where.
9.2 The groundsman does not have any financial authority to authorise orders or approve invoices relating to purchase of materials or supply of contracted services. These must be authorised, in the first instance by the Operations Manager.
9.3 Comply with Company regulations by signing the appropriate logbook, sited at the main office, each time he arrives at or leaves the site.
9.4 On completion of the working day, accurately enter the daily activities in the Grounds workbook.
9.5 The groundsman must be aware that Members and public alike on a daily basis test the result of his efforts. On their reactions rests the success or failure of the club.
9.6 The company is aware that the level of pride and effort shown by the groundsman is indicated by the condition and cleanliness of all outside areas. Standards must be to a level acceptable to the Operations Manager and the Sporting Sections.
